Now I miss my Corvair.

Are Corvairs really that stress-free? Like, short of worrying about tin worms?

Replace fan belt:
Open trunk + grab your spare belt that you keep BECAUSE YOU KNOW YOU’LL NEED IT.
Grab the needed tools-which you keep with you BECAUSE YOU KNOW YOU’LL NEED THEM.
Proceed to change the belt in under 2 minutes BECAUSE YOU’VE DONE IT MANY TIMES BEFORE.
Next we’ll talk about replacing leaky pushrod tubes.

thats all well and good, but how do you get on with other routine maintenance, like adjusting the valves. maybe the u-joints between the diff, and wheels?? or getting the defroster to warm up enough to get the ice on the windscreen to melt??

So you're saying I should buy the turbo Corvair Spyder my neighbor is selling?
![]() 06/04/2016 at 20:38 |

Valves are the same as any other pushrod. U joints basically the same as a normal driveshaft. I’ll have to get back to you when I get the parts for the defroster. They were kinds missing when I bought it.

what i mean about running the valves, is that there just isnt THAT much room to work, unless youre under the thing.. and then the crankshaft pulley becomes a challenge.......
they do have their own fun quirks though...

Under there is plenty of room. More than a vw.a

you are far more fortunate than i am....... under those old cars i always seem to find yellow jackets, and brown recluses...... more because they have been setting up for quite some time than anything else.
